2016 Queensland Guineas Final Field and Barrier Draw

June 8th, 2016

A talented and capacity field of eighteen three-year-olds has been confirmed for Saturday’s 2016 Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm Racecourse; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Brisbane Winter Carnival’s standout performers.

Tivaci has produced a number of commendable efforts in 2016, and could very well receive the run of the race in the Queensland Guineas after drawing the ideal barrier 6.

Savaging the line for success in a Pakenham minor over 1200m upon resuming on February 4th, Tivaci made the best possible return to black type company when beating a classy field including subsequent Group 1 winner Palentino to the line in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) on February 20th.

Failing to fire in either of the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) nor Listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m), the High Chaparral colt ran on well for fourth in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) on May 21st and appears primed for a return to winning form on Saturday.

Peter & Paul Snowden currently lead the Super Six trainers challenge this winter and are offered a good chance of success in the Queensland Guineas with High Spirit, who will however require luck in running from the wide and somewhat awkward barrier 16.

High Spirit has been a strong and consistent performer through his short eight start career so far; posting one win and a further four minors.

Resuming from a freshen-up to win the Central Coast LDV Maiden (1200m), the son of High Chaparral was luckless in transit when seventh in the Pat Hyland BM75 (1400m) but responded well a well-fought second in the TAB.com.au BM71 (1600m) at Warwick Farm on June 1st.

High Spirit undoubtedly faces the biggest test of his career so far, but will be partnered by in-form hoop Tim Clark.

Kimberley Star will carry only 55kgs as a filly in the Queensland Guineas field, and should find a good position in transit in the three-year-old feature from the central barrier 8.

Producing a number of impressive performances through a breakout spring campaign, Kimberley Star returned to racing this year for fourth in the Listed Fireball Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on March 5th.

Progressing to second behind Lady Sniper in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) on March 24th, the Star Witness filly failed to fire in the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) during The Championships, but clearly relished a month between runs when placing third in the Scone Guineas (1400m) on May 14th.

Kimberley Star will be partnered by Sam Clipperton in the Queensland Guineas, who has posted two Group 1 triumphs so far in 2016.

The Rodney Ollerton-trained Royal Tudor will leave from the rails draw in the Queensland Guineas, while Sold For Song has been charged with overcoming the outside barrier.
