1. Torio’s Quest (Trainer: Brett Partelle/Jockey Hugh Bowman) Odds: $8.00
Won the Gold Coast Magic Millions three year old race, but has shown little since. Came home OK at Scone when fourth behind Jerezana but was disappointing last start at Randwick when he had every chance.
2. Skilled (Peter Snowden/Kerrin McEvoy) $8.50
Consistent colt who has had terrible luck with barriers lately. If he runs up to his placing’s in the Hobartville and Warwick Farm Guineas he will be in with a major chance.
3. Run For Levi (John Thompson/Nash Rawiller) $31.00
Ran second to Anacheeva in the Caulfield Guineas but has not come on since the spring. Has failed to get within ten lengths of the winner in each of his last three starts.
4. Celtic Dancer (Noel Doyle/Joe Bowditch) $26.00
Was fair in the Daybreak Lover Handicap, and his 11th in the Fred Best was better than it looks on paper as he got within three lengths of the winner. Was second in the Gold Coast Guineas behind Military Rose.
5. Falino (Jeffrey Caught/Tim Clark) $18.00
Won the Fred Best classic before turning in a shocker in the QTC Cup. If he finds his Fred Best form he is a chance here.
6. Ready to Rip (Andrew Williamson/Steven Arnold) $7.00
Has produced eye-catching finishes in each of his last two starts without being able to crack it for a win. Has won two from three at Eagle Farm and he had excuses last time. Top hope.
7. Steel Zip (Pat Duff/Glen Colless) $31.00
Has only been plodding in his runs during the winter carnival so far. Will need a major form reversal to win this.
8. Benny’s Buttons (Kelso Wood/Chris Munce) $7.50
Has finished in the placing’s in four of six Eagle Farm runs but hasn’t cracked it for a win. Just missed out in Daybreak Lover Handicap and will be improved here.
9. Havatryst (Barry Baldwin/Shane Scriven) $9.50
If you forget he went around in the Fred Best at Doomben his form reads OK. Some doubts over his ability to run out a strong mile.
10. Smokin Joey (Lee Freedman/Corey Brown) $9.50
Seemed to turn the corner in his last start, and his experience in the big spring carnival three year old races holds him in good stead here.
11. Under the Eiffel (Tony Vasil/Michael Rodd) $11.00
Has been unable to transfer his Melbourne form to Brisbane, but if he can find his best he is among the chances.
12. Spot the Rock (Tim Martin/Glyn Schofield) $14.00
Had good two year old from around the likes of Chance Bye and Ilovethiscity and has come back in good form after a 12 month break. Fitness is the concern but he’s a chance.
13. Igles Star (Kelso Wood/Jason Taylor) $71.00
Major queries over whether he can run a strong mile.
14. Sir Fox (Anthony Cummings/Luke Nolen) $26.00
Has started as favourite in each of his last four starts. Last start can be forgiven because of the bog track and asides from that has rarely run a poor race. Rough hope.
15. Bianca Jewel (Steven O’Dea/Ryan Wiggins) $35.00
Has failed in fillies class at her last two starts but has won 3 from 4 at the track which is a plus.
16. Demanding Miss – Scratched
17. Fashion (Heath Conners/Lisa Cropp) $26.00
Beat Derby hope Heidilicious at Flemington in April then ran third in a listed race at Morphettville. Went fairly in the Daybreak Lover Stakes without being spectacular.
18. Tigress Lily (John O’Shea/James McDonald) $15.00
Has won at the mile which is a huge plus here. Was also third behind Sincero in the Scone Guineas which is good form for this.
19. Wabeel – Scratched
20. Upsala (Kenny Rae/Opie Bosson) $51.00
Kiwi colt who comes into this on OK form albeit against a much weaker grade.
21. Count Your Fingers – Scratched
22. I’llbetricked – Scratched
23. Madame Sleeper – Scratched.
