The Queensland Guineas is a Group Two, mile race that is only open to three year olds.
The 2011 version of the Guineas will be worth $250,000.
In 2010 Rothesay was a raging favourite for the Guineas and duly saluted beating home smart gallopers Launay and Fifteen Carat.
The Desleigh Forster trained Adebisi was an impressive winner in three year old grade earlier in the Brisbane Winter carnival and seems on track to compete in the Guineas. Smokin Joey for Lee Freedman ran second in that race and seems a likely Guineas type. Smokin Joey raced in the top three year old events during the Victorian Spring Carnival and will have an edge in big race experience come Guineas day.
The Fred Best Classic over 1350m is one of the traditional lead in events to the Queensland Guineas and it looks as if that will be the case in 2011 as well. Many of the horses from the Bet Fred Classic are expected to be among the nominations for the Guineas.
The Jeffrey Caught trained Falino took out the Fred Best Classic in 2011 and is expected to be among the top chances in this year’s Queensland Guineas. Spirit of Boom and the Peter Snowden trained Skilled filled the placing’s in that race, and the class of those two gallopers will carry them a long way in the Queensland Guineas.
