Queensland Guineas History

The time-honoured Queensland Guineas is one of Brisbane’s most established races, first conducted in 1896 when College Cap claimed victory.

It started as a Principal race before reaching Group 3 status in 1979. Later on in 1988 the Queensland Guineas was elevated to its current Group 2 status.

Many brilliant gallopers have won the Queensland Guineas including Turffontein (2008), True Glo (2003), Regent Street (2002), Yippio (1997), Triscay (1991) and Planet Ruler (1988).

Before 2013 the Queensland Guineas was run on Stradbroke Handicap Day a week later.
